PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
